When this 7' Baldwin F arrived at the shop. it had not seen any meaningful repairs for a very long time.  Built in 1925, it was a fine instrument in it's day.  But, after years of playing, use and abuse, it was time for a makeover.

After weeks of careful measurements, disassembly begins.  Parts are marked and cataloged, photos are taken, and the cleaning begins.  Repairs are done to the case and case parts, glue joints are checked for quality, any bright items, such as hinges and hardware are polished or replated to their original lustre.  Then new quality parts are ordered, so that the reassembly can at long last begin.  By now, the soundboard has been scraped, sanded, and refinished, bridged repinned and refinished, and the exterior has been given a high gloss ebony finish.  The cast plate has been rebronzed, factory lettering repainted, and a new pinblock has been hand-fitted.  Next, stringing using fine quality strings and tuning pins,

Finally, we can begin on the action.  Key sticks are media blasted, keytops are sanded and buffed if in good condition, replaced if poor.  Sharps are cleaned and buffed, as are capstans.  Key bushings are replaced to stabilize the feel.  Action brackets are refinished, hardware is buffed, rails are sanded and refinished.  Action parts, such as whippens, hammers, shanks and flanges are replaced using the best quality parts, as are felt items.  Although you may not see what we work so hard on, the pride in workmanship shows!

Once all this is done, the multiple tunings, regulations, cleanings, and assembly, the piano is ready for delivery and approval.
